How Did the Community Start?
It started the way many good things do — with a conversation between three girls who met in Porto and became friends.
One conversation changed everything. Khrystyna said she missed the energy of Erasmus meetups — that easy, open way of meeting people when you’re new. The idea instantly clicked. Jette created an Instagram page, Solya started designing the visuals, and suddenly it felt real.
There was no long plan, just a shared feeling that this was needed.
In March 2024, ExpatGirls.Porto officially started. Since then, we’ve been organizing a few events every month, watching the community grow, and seeing friendships form right in front of us — including our own. We’ve found opportunities, and even jobs through the community. But most importantly, we found our people.
Looking back, we’re really glad we didn’t talk ourselves out of it.
